Kim Phung Restaurant: Reviews & Ratings
I've been coming here for about 10 years and I've never been disappointed. Their 3 meat on rice with an egg is my always go to dish but you can't go wrong with anything you order here. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, they make you feel like family. It's a family run and owned business that serves up authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Must try place that is also on doordash.
This small yet mighty restaurant yielded wonderful home cooked meals. The food was delicious and scrumptious. Both rice and pho were ordered and both were spot on. The rice dish was near perfect, the pie was a touch dry, but the meat was cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Authentic Vietnamese experience. You get lime, not lemon...small Thai red chilies , not sliced jalapenos...free hot tea, iced if you want. All sauces at the table: -fish sauce -soy sauce -chili oil -garlic chili sauce -hoisin sauce -sriracha hot sauce The food was done very well...exactly what I would expect if I were in Vietnam. Portion sizes are adequate, and price is fair. We ordered two vermicelli bowls: #33 (Grilled chicken, pork chop, and BBQ minced pork) #40 (Grilled pork & shrimp sugar cane) ... If you want a thick slice of pork, ask for the pork chop, otherwise the grilled pork is thinly sliced with crispy bits. Both are super tasty! Don't expect perfection here, but due to the authenticity, I'm rating very high. This is a hidden gem .
Maybe I'm a bit sensitive but I found the broth lacks a clean flavour. Service was very family and nice though.
Small family restaurants seem to be in decline and it was nice to discover Kim Phung. It was a delight. The restaurant is very small, with only a dozen or so tables. It is not polished, modern, or new. Overall, we found it to be clean and well kept. There is wear noted and some clutter that seems to accompany long established family operations. Overall, there was nothing unexpected in the decor and it was fun watching the Paris By Night concert they had playing on the TV. It's an experience. This is a family run restaurant, so service comes with genuine care and attention. We were greeted by a more senior member of the family who seated us and gave us menus with cups of tea. A younger family member then came to take our order and she remained our server for the meal. We felt like we were visiting friends and sitting in the dining room of their home. It was pleasant and relaxed. The food was excellent. To say it was tasty seems to be too hasty a word to describe the layers of flavor that were on offer here. The menu is robust and there are numerous dishes on offer that have virtually disappeared from modern Vietnamese restaurants. We appreciate Kim Phung keeping these dishes available. We give Kim Phung our highest rating and a strong recommendation. It's not perfect or trendy, and family run restaurants have a different approach to business. While we were there, three generations were present (even a child playing at a table near the back). Go, sit, and soak up something a little different. I don't think you will regret it. We will be back for sure.
A very good place for Vietnamese food. my Vietnamese friend says it's a good place. Have to try when you're around!! It's authentic and the owner is super nice.

If you're in Vancouver and yearning for an authentic taste of Vietnam, Kim Phung Restaurant should be at the top of your dining list. Nestled on Victoria Drive, this family-owned gem has been delighting locals and visitors alike for over a decade. Patrons rave about its warm, welcoming atmosphere, which truly feels like dining at a close friend's home.
One of the standout dishes that keeps Angela Tran coming back year after year is the three-meat rice with an egg. This beloved dish exemplifies what Kim Phung does best: perfectly cooked meats paired with comforting rice that is sure to satiate any craving. And if you’re not sure what to order, rest assured that you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, including classic Vietnamese staples like pho and vermicelli bowls.
For those looking for a hearty meal, Jeremy Kwan’s experience with the rice and pho delivers a harmonious balance of flavors. With the rice dish nearly perfected and the pho garnished with a delightful assortment of sauces—from fish sauce to hoisin sauce—every bite is a culinary journey. It's the layers of flavor and attention to detail that set Kim Phung apart from its competitors.
The restaurant's authentic touches are what Jason York appreciates most. A meal here includes traditional accompaniments like lime instead of lemon, and small Thai chilies rather than jalapeños, enhancing the overall experience. Each dish is a testament to the rich Vietnamese culinary tradition, making you feel as if you’ve traveled straight to the streets of Vietnam.
However, Kim Phung is not about ostentation; it embraces the rustic charm of family dining. The intimate setting features only a handful of tables, and seeing multiple generations of the family engaging with diners adds a layer of authenticity that you seldom find in larger chains. As Benzi Schnauzer notes, the restaurant's modest decor and lively ambiance—including performances from Paris By Night—create an inviting and relaxed dining experience.
While some diners like Renbo Huang may find the broth's flavor a tad lacking, it's clear that the warmth of the service and familial bond within the restaurant shine through every dish served. Each meal at Kim Phung is not just about food; it’s about the comfort of being welcomed into a family atmosphere that values the rich traditions of Vietnamese cooking.
In the end, Kim Phung Restaurant stands out as more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a slice of Vietnamese culture and hospitality located conveniently in Vancouver. Whether you’re a long-time regular or a first-timer, you're sure to leave feeling more like family. Do yourself a favor and indulge in the flavors and experiences that await you at this hidden gem.
